On June 20, 2018, Ungava MNA Jean Boucher presented a medal for good citizenship to Annie Kanayuk of Puvirnituq. In 2015, Ms. Kanayuk saved the lives of three children, rescuing them from a burning home.
During the night of June 23, 2015,
Annie Kanayuk perceived a burning two-storey building while walking in her village.
She climbed to the second floor, woke up three children sleeping in a bedroom and
helped them to get outside. When she then heard a woman calling for help, Ms. Kanayuk
returned inside the building despite the growing fire and again attempted to
deliver assistance. The flames and smoke finally forced her to flee from the
building.
Ms. Kanayuk was awarded the medal
for good citizenship for her bravery.

Every year, the Québec government
honours acts of bravery by awarding medals for good citizenship. There are 23
recipients this year.
