The Kativik Regional Government's (KRG) Civil Security section, in collaboration with the Nunavik Hunting Fishing Trapping Association (HFTA), is offering tips for safety while on the land.
Changing weather and trail conditions, sudden mechanical or health issues, accidents and poor preparation, are the main factors leading to dangerous situations when travelling on the land.
Remember your A, B, C, and D
A- Advise family & friends where you're going and when you will return.
B- Be prepared for 72 hours! Bring equipment for shelter, extra fuel, tools and parts, rope, First Aid Kit, dry clothes, food, etc.
C- Communicate when Camping. Use an HF Radio, Satellite phone, Spot device.
D- Don't travel alone.
If something happens, don't panic and:
S- Sit. And look at the situation.
T- Think of the resources and equipment you have.
O- Observe all challenges and risks.
P- Plan a safe strategy for survival and stay together with your equipment.
Follow these ground rules, and you won't land yourself in trouble! Enjoy the land safely.
