The Hunter Support Program delivered by the Renewable
Resources, Environment, Lands and Parks Department of the Kativik Regional
Government organizes firearms safety courses in the communities.
Why you need a firearms license
The firearms possession and acquisition licence enables you to
acquire non-restricted firearms and ammunition from authorized sellers.
To learn more basic firearms safety tips, visit the page Gun Safety Awareness.
To apply for a firearms possession and acquisition licence,
you must first successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course. The
course also provides tips that can contribute to the safety of those living
around you.
How to register for the Canadian Firearms Safety Course
If you are interested in taking the course and obtaining a
firearms possession and acquisition licence, visit your local hunter support
program to register. Once enough participants are registered in a community, the
local hunter support program informs the Kativik Regional Government, which then
organizes a course as soon as possible.
Canadian Firearms Safety Course
There are currently seven firearms safety instructors
affiliated with the Renewable Resources, Environment, Lands and Parks Department
of the Kativik Regional Government. Their goal is to visit each community twice
a year to deliver the Canadian Firearms Safety Course. Sécurité Nature (the
Québec federation of hunters and anglers) supplies the necessary course materials.
The Course takes two days to complete. On the first day,
participants receive instruction on firearms safety. On the second day, they
must complete both a theoretical exam and a practical exam. The overall passing
grade for the Canadian Firearms Safety Course is 80%.
Canadian Firearms Safety Course certificate
Participants who successfully pass the Canadian Firearms
Safety Course will receive a certificate from Sécurité Nature within three
weeks. The certificate does not have to be renewed.
How to obtain a firearms possession and acquisition licence
